Jawaharlal Memorial Social Welfare & Public Cooperation Centre is a Voluntary Organization Registered under Charitable Societies Registration Act with register No. K 19/70. Since inception, the Organization has been working for the welfare and development of the weaker sections of the society; particularly for women and children.
The goal of the Organization is to identify the disadvantaged and oppressed and to tackle their problems through compassionate approaches such as training, education, and motivation of people for collective leadership to become an effective instrument of a change for a just and tolerant society.
Jawaharlal Memorial Social Welfare & Public Cooperation Centre is a non-political non secular Organization represented in various forums of the Government of Kerala and the Government of India in rural and women development areas of planning, development and allied activities.
Vaikorn taluk is a backward and un served area in all respects and the people were striving hard for a worthy living. Health problems were acute in the area. Life of the women and children were pathetic and they suffered very much. Jawaharlal Memorial Social Welfare & Public Cooperation Centre is started in the year 1970 to initiate social development activities to reduce their sufferings.
The Organization from its inception was engaged in welfare and philanthropic activities. 250 MCH centres were opened in Kottayam and Ernakulam District. Bulger wheat, milk, soyabeen oil, CSM, etc were given to them free of cost through the help of Catholic Relief Services (CRS). With the aid of CRS 200 houses and 2500 sanitary latrines constructed and these activities were further promoted by CAPART. The State and Central Governments also helped to organize Family Counselling Centre, roof water tanks, welfare activities for eligible couples, medical aid, etc. in the area.
Considering the social development activities, the National Commission for Women has awarded the Organization as the best women voluntary organization in the year 1997. In the year 2000, the Nehru Yuva Kendra has selected the Organization as the Best Youth Organization in Kerala. The Planet Finance has given Micro Finance Excellence Award in 2005, for the best performance in organizing women self help groups and arranging financial assistance to them.
 The Organization has had the patronage of various Ministries like Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Textiles, and other agencies like Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicraft), Central Social Welfare Board, NABARD, CAPART, UNICEF, Kerala State AIDS Control Society, World Bank, Rubber Board, NYK, Cochin Refineries Ltd., etc.
